The 2026 Races Independents Are Watching

Contested congressional, Senate, and statewide races across the country. Every declared candidate. No endorsements. Just your options.

Election 2026 Key Races

These races were selected because they represent something unusual about the 2026 cycle: competitive fields, non-traditional candidates, or electorates where independent and unaffiliated voters make up a decisive share of the vote. Nothing on these pages reflects an endorsement. Every candidate gets the same treatment.

More Voters Than Ever Belong to No Party

Across every race on this page, the single largest voting bloc is voters registered with no political party—or living in states that don't register by party at all. In Alaska, that's roughly two-thirds of the electorate. In Montana, Indiana, Illinois, and Washington, it's every registered voter by definition. In Iowa and Nebraska, no-party voters outnumber either major party's base. These voters are not a fringe. They hold the margin in race after race—and they deserve the same access to clear, factual information about their choices that any other voter does. That's what every page in this series is built to provide.
